Bleu Fleuri

Pattern: McCall's 3341, View A

Materials: Fabric.com

I made a spring~y linen skirt for my mother as a late birthday gift. I had actually bought the materials well in advance so as to have plenty of time to make it before her birthday but then decided just to give her the fabric so she could direct the skirt sewing operations herself.

Sewing for Spring: Skirt the Second

Pattern: Simplicity 2609, View E with the addition of a lining.

All of the materials, including the pattern, came from my stash.

I highly recommend this pattern. It is simple, easy to alter, easy to fit and there are many style options. This is the second time I have made this skirt. You can see the other by clicking here.

I just remembered...

I never posted pictures of the things I made as examples for sewing camp.

Skirt

Pants

Pillow

I ran out of time and couldn't get a bag made but one of the girls had made the pattern before and she kindly brought her bag over to use as the example.

Sewing Camp - Day Three

Skirt day! It was also a rather interesting day as we had no AC downstairs. We pulled out a couple of fans so it wasn't all that bad. The girls all did a great job on their skirts, I think it was the first time some of them had used a real pattern.

See you tomorrow!

Green

And the third skirt. This one is made from the same pattern as my graduation skirt, McCall's 3341. I cut it two and half inches away from the fold in order to add the pleats. I also cut the pattern down one size (the other skirt is a little big) and lengthened it a little over an inch. The fabric is, well, you want to guess where it's from? Yep! It's from my stash!

Yellow

The second skirt made from another unused pattern in my stash but this one I liked. Simplicity 2655 is pretty, feminine (even without all the flowers), a little time consuming but still simple to put together and it fit great without any adjustments! But the best part was finally using that great piece of fabric which had been sitting in my closet for at least four years!

Blue

This is one of three skirts I made recently. The pattern is McCall's 4258. I had never used it before and I'm not sure that I will use it again. The side seams were curved at the top which makes for odd folds in hip area when I (or the dress form) wear it (see the second photo). Fortunately the pattern, fabric, interfacing and zipper were all in my stash so I didn't lose any money over it!

Flower Pot Skirt

I made this little tiered skirt for Sewing Seeds. I got the fabric at Hancock's and the pattern is Butterick 4722.

It was such fun to make and knowing it was going to someone who really needed it made it even better!

Panel Skirt Tutorial - Part Two: Sewing the Skirt

Here is the next instalment of the infamous skirt tutorial!

1) Try on the top of your skirt (the denim part) and measure from the waist to where you would like the finished length to be. Write it down and set it aside.

2) Mark your center back panel with a safety pin.

3) With right sides together sew the two front side panels to either side of the center front panel matching them at the top. If the bottom of one side is longer that's fine it's more important that they are even at the top.

3) Zig-zag or serge the seams and press them towards the side panels. Trim the bottom if necessary.

4) Sew the back side panels to the front side panels. Making sure you are sewing opposite prints together.

5) Zig-zag or serge seams and press towards the back side panels. Trim bottom if necessary.

6) Sew the center back panel to one of the side back panels. Zig-zag or serge seam and press towards the side back panel. Do not trim the bottom.

6) Fold the strip of panels in half and sew the center back panel to the other side back panel. Zig-zag or serge seam and press towards the side back panel. Trim the bottom if necessary.

7) With right sides together, pin the panels to the skirt top matching the side seams and making sure the backs and fronts are together. You may have to stretch the fabric a little to get it to fit.

8) Put in your Jeans needle and sew the waist seam. Zig-zag or serge the seam and press towards the panels.

9) Now, to prepare for the ruffle we have to do a little math (sorry). Get that measurement you wrote down back out along with a pencil (or a calculator if your lazy like me). From your length measurement subtract the width of your ruffle, now add half an inch. Now, measure the length of your skirt. If it is longer than the number you came up with upon the completion of your long and difficult equation trim it to the correct length, if it is a little shorter or the same as your answer then leave it.

10) Zig-zag around the bottom of your skirt.

Now you're all done with this part!

See you later!
