Chemise Update #6 - It's Done!

It's finished! I'm so excited! The fabric I used for this chemise is much thinner and lighter weight than my cotton one which will make it more comfortable to where under my stays. The only alteration I made to the pattern was to cut two of the back piece and sew them together instead of cutting the back on the fold. This was because of the length and width of my fabric (1 1/2 yards at 60" wide instead of 2 3/4 at 45" wide). The pattern was great, everything went together beautifully and I love my finished product!

Chemise Update #5

Almost done! I finished the flat-felling so now I just have to hem around the bottom and the sleeves. I included a picture of the corset fabric which I washed and dried last night, I also traced the pattern. I measured exactly for the size 10, I was so happy as I usually end up between sizes and it is most difficult to decide which size to make.

Chemise Update #4

Been working on the flat-felling but I took a break to do the neckline casing. After digging through the scrap bag I only came up with three small pieces of my fabric, not nearly enough for the casing! So instead I used some rayon seam binding I had on hand. Not the most accurate thing in the world but it did the job. The actual drawstring is a piece of linen ribbon.

Oh! and my corset fabric came in the mail this morning! I still have to order the bones and the busk though.

Later!

Note: This is actually Monday's post. I just didn't get around to getting it all put together and published until just now!

Chemise Update #3

It's all put together! Now I just have to flat-fell the seams. Ugh.

Chemise Update #2

I thought maybe it was time for an update. I haven't worked on the chemise since my last post but I'll hopefully be able to pull it out this afternoon. I did order the fabric for my corset, though. Yesterday. Three yards of canvas linen and one of jacquard. Can't wait 'till it comes!

Chemise Update #1

I started sewing my Regency chemise today! Here is a picture of a real chemise from the early nineteenth century. It is from MFA Boston's online collection. At first I thought the little smudge at the top left was a tear in the fabric but when I zoomed in I found that it was the original wearer's initials embroidered in blue reverse chain stitching. I might have to do that on mine! Here is the link to the picture.
