Guess What?

It snowed! Well, technically it iced. But really! When you only get it once a year what's the difference?

What to do with an icy hill...

When away from home...

...Have lots of fun!

Emma, Georgia Beth and I stayed at a friends home for four days last week.

We played outside...

Cooked and baked...

Had a tea party...

And tried to look cool...

Though I don't think we did a very good job!

This Week...

Just a short one this week.

'God spoke to Moses and said to him, "I am the LORD." '
-Exodus 6:2

He is THE LORD. What more do we need to know?

Catching Up

As I mentioned in my last post I was gone for most of this week. It appears that whilst I was away I was tagged twice. Rebecca Ann of Singing in His Name and Elinor Dashwood of Hooks and Needles both handed me the followed tag:

The Rules:
1. Do a quick post about the person that tagged you saying thanks. {Thank you!}
2. Answer the ten questions.
3. Follow three new blogs and list them.
4. Tag six people.
5. Challenge one person to do something fun or crazy.

1- Have you ever been to a rodeo?
No. I saw one on TV once though.
2- Have you ever tried to ride a cow?
Umm, no.
3- Have you ever milked a cow or goat?
Yes, I milked a cow at the State Fair.
4- Have you ever been to a Demolition Derby?
What's that?
5- What is your favorite Country song?
I'm afraid I don't listen to country music, sorry.
6- Do you like to hunt?
I don't know, I've never tried.
7- Have you ever cooked your breakfast over an open fire in your backyard?
Not breakfast. Hot dogs and marshmallows.
8- Have you ever thought that the muck was shallow and when you stepped in it, you sank knee deep?
No. I try to stay out of muck in general.
9- What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
Can I come back to this one after I've thought a while?
10- (The question is optional) What's one of your most embarrassing moments?
I shall decline to answer this question.

I will follow:
Salley Mavor
The Pioneer Woman

Because I don't have time to do any tagging right now, if you like cowboys you're tagged!

And...

I am going to challenge myself not to eat another one of those warm, home made rice krispie treats that are sitting on the stove!

A Dare

Good Morning One And All!

I spent the last several days at the home of a friend and while I was there I was introduced to this amazing person. Her name is The Pioneer Woman. I will introduce you to her gently {*wink*}.

{A.K.A. Death By Butter}

Try them. I dare you. Warning: you may not survive.

Regency Era Short Stays

I recently completed a new pair of short stays to wear underneath my Regency gowns. The pattern is Sense and Sensibility's Regency Underthings and the materials include: Cotton Twill, Cotton Muslin, Spiral Steel Bones, Silk Buttonhole Twist and Seam Binding. The inner seams are machine sewn and the outer seams are hand sewn.

White Neck Scarf

I made my scarf based on these one worn by Elinor and Marianne in Sense and Sensibility to wear with my Regency dresses.

My scarf is made of voile and completely hand sewn. I did not use a pattern.

Sleeveless Regency Chemise

This Week...

Now this is this weeks!

' "When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live." But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this, and let the male children live?" The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them."  So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.'
-Exodus 1:16-21 (ESV)

This passage is so inspiring to me. The two Hebrew midwives knew three things: they knew what they were commanded to do by Pharaoh was wrong, they knew he could punish them if they disobeyed and they knew that God was to be feared rather than man. They could have done what Pharaoh wanted  with punishment as an excuse but they chose to obey God instead!

This Week...

Actually this is last week. Sorry about that!

'As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.'
-Genesis 50:20 (ESV)

As Christians we are promised trials and tribulations (Jas. 1:2-3). Though this may sound like a dim prospect we can take comfort in the fact that God has a plan and everything that happens to us is part of that plan. When something bad does take place we can know that it is for the good of ourselves and others (Rom. 8:28).
Is there an award for being a Really Rotten Blogger? Because if so I probably deserve it! Yes, I am apologizing again for not posting! Oh well, such is life, right?!

Regency Era Sleeveless Chemise

I am planning to make a Regency Era gown with sheer sleeves and I did not want my chemise sleeves to show. Using information gleaned from the Sense and Sensibility Patterns message forum I made a sleeveless chemise.

Pattern:
Sense and Sensibility's Regency Underthings Pattern

Materials:
White Cotton Voile
White Seam Binding (For the drawstring.)

All of the inner seams were sewn my machine. All outer seams were sewn by hand using a back stitch (flat felling) or a running stitch (hems).

I used this picture from the forum as a guide.

Movie Review: Return to Cranford

With Masterpiece airing the first of the new episodes of Cranford tonight I thought I would write you a quick review, hopefully with no spoilers!

"Love, it is the final word."
- Miss Matty

Miss Matty is content with her quiet life. With the return of her brother she has closed her tea shop and now spends her time helping to care for Martha's baby and meeting her friends often. The railway has stopped five miles from town and the good ladies of Cranford feel themselves to be safe from it. Yet their peaceful lives are about to be altered. Through grief and trial Miss Matty is brought to see the advantages of the railway and urges her friends to reconsider their previous views on the subject. But when things do not turn out as she expected and further tragedy occurs Miss Matty believes she has opened a Pandora's box and wonders if there is anything she can do to make amends and give the people of her town hope.

As with the first series there is very little content to report and what there is is extremely mild. There is a childbirth scene but all we see is some blood on someone's hand and we hear the mother's cries. There is an explosion which kills one person but we only see this from a distance. One character removes his shirt to expose several burn marks. Two characters exchange love letters and kiss once. Some of the ladies attend a Halloween party where they tell ghost stories. There is a magic show and various tricks are preformed. There was no immodesty and I do not remember any language.
